Contracts with Engineers

Contracts with Engineers Depending on the size of your project, there are a variety of contracts available to Engineers and their clients.

For small projects like inspections, the engineer may produce a simple letter outlining the scope of the service being performed, the fee for that service and when it is to be performed. Some Engineers have a simple one-page form for such a contract.

For more complex projects there is an entire series of contract forms published by the Engineers Joint Contract Documents Committee (EJCDC). This committee is composed of members of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), the National Society of Professional Engineers/Professional Engineers in Private Practice (NSPE/PEPP), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and legal consultants. These forms offer the advantage of years of testing in the courts and the accumulated knowledge and experience of an entire industry. These forms may be purchased from ACEC.
